Nowadays, a lot of resentment towards Boomers exists in the society. So many youngsters make negative remarks towards middle-aged and old people. They complain about their attitude, behavior, actions… so on and so forth.

A recent social media post asked for people’s opinions on bitterness towards Boomers, and people had a lot to say! In this slide show, let’s take a look at 10 reasons for this resentment.

Boomers were the generation born after World War II. They shaped the post-war world and its economy. But some people feel that they have created a lot of economic and social problems for the younger generations.

Younger generations feel that it was Boomers’ neglect that created issues like income inequality and climate change. Now the younger generation seems to be stuck in this mess.

The Circle of Blame

Generational blame is not a new thing. Boomers blamed their generation for their problems, and so did their parents. It’s a cycle that never ends.

Each generation points the finger at the generation before them. Blaming someone else can make it easier to avoid thinking about who’s actually going to fix these issues.

Some people think that blaming Boomers might be missing the bigger picture. It’s easier to point the finger at an entire generation, instead of focusing on billionaires and big corporations (who are really responsible for the issues!)

Some feel that this resentment towards Boomers is a distraction. When you divide people along generational lines, the real problems remain hidden.

Younger people assume that Boomers were way better off—good jobs, owning a house, and living a stable life. They had affordable education, pensions, and stable employment. They feel that Boomers didn’t try hard enough to maintain these and they (younger people) are now being robbed of these chances.

Boomers look like they had the perfect life, but that is probably not true. Many Boomers will tell you that things weren’t as easy as they seem now, and they had their struggles too.

The Fallout of Success

The Baby Boomers were fortunate to have been born when the world was emerging from the destruction of war. They got to enjoy the benefits of a growing economy and new opportunities.

But now, younger people are having a harder time getting started. It’s like the Boomers got to build an amazing LEGO castle, and now younger generations are left with a few broken pieces to play with. That is part of where some of the resentment comes from—the difference in luck and opportunity.

Young people have a hard time understanding that Boomers are not all the same. Some of them lived wildly successful lives while others struggled with debt or hard times, just like how Millennials and Gen-Z live their lives today.

Every generation has a mix of people with different lives, and it’s hard to remember that when you’re going through your own challenges.

The Boomer Attitude

Baby Boomers are blamed for the way they behave, the way they communicate, the way they handle things, etc. People have created many stereotypes about Boomers.

However, not every Boomer fits this stereotype. Good qualities like kindness, open-mindedness, etc., are not about age or when you were born. They come from the heart.

Sometimes, it is just easier to blame someone else. Although many people like to blame Boomers for a lot of things, but it’s often their frustration with bigger systems, not Boomers as individuals.

It’s like being mad at the red light for stopping your car. The problem is bigger than just one generation, but it’s easier to blame them because they’re more visible.

Political Choices

Political opinion has also had an impact on boomers. Some younger people are not thrilled about the policies or the leaders this demographic has helped put into power. They feel these choices have made their own lives more difficult.

Politics can divide people, and this is one area where generational differences often show up.

Tech Trouble

Boomers, at least stereotypically, are pretty bad with things like technology. But struggling with tech isn’t just a Boomer problem. There are many who are struggling to adapt to new technologies.

What’s really frustrating is if someone is complaining about the tech but not showing a willingness to understand it. It’s like asking for directions to the store but refusing to use a map or your GPS. This attitude can rub people the wrong way.
